St. Davids v Quins

The Quins travelled to St Davids on Saturday with the bare 15 players but came away with a well deserved bonus point win.

The Quins got onto the scoresheet after just 10 Minutes with a try by Centre and Captain Thomas Doyle after a fine burst from Prop Nathan Abrahams which had set up the oppourtunity. Thomas Doyle missed the conversion of his own try which he had to take as regular goal kicker Ben Hathaway was having treatment on a sprained ankle. 5 minutes later the Quins extended their lead even further when Outside Half Ben Hathaway, back on kicking duty slotted over a fine 35 metre penalty. The Quins 2nd try, however, was not long in coming and this time it was 2nd Row, Dean Wilcox who like he has been doing all season went on a barnstorming run from 30 metres out and this time there was no stopping the influential forward. Ben Hathaway converted to put the Quins 15 points to the good. Just before the break Full Back Sam Richards finished off a fine move with a unconverted try in the corner to give the the Quins a 20 Point lead at the interval.

The Quins started the 2nd half with a bang when Thomas Doyle crossed for the all important bonus point try and his 2nd of the match. Ben Hathaway missed the conversion. The game now seemed in the bag, but this time it was the Saints who through down the gauntlet pinning the Quins in their own 22 for long periods but the defence held up superbly, which was epitomised by Flanker Alex Pierce who put in a tremendous try saving tackle on Saints Full Back Rhys Morgan which would have graced any game. Things were soon to get even better for the Quins Flanker, when he forced his way over for the Quins 5th and final try. Scrum Half Ben Quick took over the kicking duties from the limping Ben Hathaway but pushed his kick wide of the mark. As the match drew to a close Rhys Morgan crossed for a well deserved unconverted try for the Saints to end the scoring.

And Finally mention must be made of the commitment made by Dean Wilcox who got up off night shift to play as well as returning to work the same evening. Ben Hathaway soldiered on with a nasty ankle sprain and Stefan Hallward with a  damaged thumb battled manfully for the whole 80 minutes never taking a step backwards. The Quins were also not helped by the cancellation of the Youth Match at Bierspool at the ridiculous time of 14:15hrs.
