Quins v Neyland

The Quins made 8 changes from last weeks home defeat by St Clears and it paid dividends as they ran out worthy winners in their last home game of the season, completing the double over thei near neighbours

The Pembrokeshire "All Blacks" put pressure on the Quins straight from the kick of and after a Quins indiscretion scrum half Mark Riley put over a 30 yd penalty to give his side the lead with only 2 minutes gone. The lead, however, did not last very long as 5 minutes later Quins flanker Barry Parsons powered over for his 3rd try of the season. Outside half Lewis Davies slotted the conversion to put the Quins 7-3 in front. The Quins were dominating territory but could not force a score. Quins left wing Jake Griffiths was causing the visitors major problems every time he had the ball, making ground at will, but it would just not click for the Quins as they failed to capitalise on their territorial advantage. It took the Quins right up to the end of the half before they registered their 2nd try. A penalty put into the corner by Quins in form outside half Lewis Davies put the visitors under pressure. A fine line out take by flanker Stefan Halward set up a maul reminiscent of a Quins bygone age, which enabled No. 8 Kevin Bratcher to touchdown for his 4th try of the season. Lewis Davies converted with a magnificent kick from wide out considering the conditions and on the wrong side for the left footer.

The Quins with a 14-3 lead were truly in the box seat as the 2nd half started, even though they were playing into a cold Northerly wind. Neyland, however, were making life difficult with some stern defence. Another fine break by Jake Griffiths set up centre Jack Price who needed all his pace and power to touchdown in the corner for his 9th try of the season. Lewis Davies missed the difficult conversion. It was now all about whether the Quins could force a bonus point. With 15 minutes left the Quins 4th try arrived when centre Thomas Doyle made ground before Barry Parsons with a well timed pass sent 2nd row Alex Pierce in for his 2nd try of the season. Lewis Davies added the extras. The Quins then seemed content to sit on their bonus point win as Neyland tried hard to force a late consolation score, but it came to no avail.
