Quins v Laughrne

PEMBROKE DOCK HARLEQUINS RFC 31 - LAUGHARNE RFC 0

The Quins firmly put the disappointment's of last season firmly behind them with an outstanding display against a Laugharne side that finished 4th in last years campaign.

In the early stages the Quins were guilty of conceding 3 penalties and a free kick when having the visitors under the cosh. However, on 20 minutes they opened their account when Centre Thomas Doyle charged down Scrum Half Gethin Jones attempted clearance. The ball popped backed to Scrum Half Elliot Lewis who threw a superb pass to Centre Jack Price who sent Full-Back Damien Miller over in the corner. Outside Half Lewis Davies converted from wide out with fine kick considering the windy conditions. Five minutes later the visitors had a chance to reduce the arrears but Centre Ross Michael sent his kick wide of the uprights. The Quins were beginning to turn the screw especially in the rucks and mauls where numerous turnovers were putting the visitors under pressure. It was not long before the Quins struck again when Jack Price burst through the middle before putting Damien Miller over in the corner for a fine unconverted Try. As the half drew to a close the visitors put pressure on the Quins try-line and it was only a superb tackle on Laugharne No.8 Carl Smith by Flanker Stefan Halwood that prevented a certain try. The Quins turned the ball over yet again and cleared their lines. The half ended with the Quins 12 points to the good and in a pretty strong position.

The Quins went straight on the attack at the start of the 2nd half with the visitors finding it increasingly difficult to get out of their half. On 50 Minutes Lewis Davies pushed a penalty wide which would have given the Quins a 3 score cushion. On the hour the Quins  struck again when a fine break by Damien Miller sent Left Wing Jake Griffiths up the touchline before a superbly timed pass sent Jack Price in for the Quins 3rd Try. Lewis Davies converted to push the Quins lead out to 19-0. For the Quins now it was all about the bonus point. They had to wait untill 10  minutes from time to achieve it. On yet another turnover, good work by replacement Prop Dai Moseley and Stefan Halwood enabled Jack Price to force his way over for the all important bonus point try. Lewis Davies missed the Conversion. At 24-0 the game was over as a contest, but all credit to the Quins as they fought to keep their line intact despite some late Laugharne pressure. In the final minute the Quins rounded off with a fine try by Damien Miller after a strong 30 metre run from replacement Wing Dan Goodridge. Lewis Davies converted to end the match with a fine victory for the Quins.
